Gochugaru is made from Korean dried red chili flakes. This chili is also called taeyangco or sometimes called gochu chili.
Gochugaru has a coarse powder texture and is bright red in color. Gochugaru tastes hot, sweet and has a slight smoky smell. The level of spiciness also varies, some are spicy (maewoon) and some are less spicy (deol maewoon).
